Manufacturing Process
Manufacturing can simply be called as a cutting process. This is because cutting is the only factor which is under human control, rest is the nature’s game. A rough diamond is carefully planned to cut, which can get the best out of any rough diamond. A good cut can offset a lower color or clarity and vice-versa. A poor cut actually reduces the brilliance, sparkle, and scintillations of a diamond.
The decision to cut a diamond in a particular shape is spoken by the natural shape of the rough stone. Incredible amounts of patience, skill, and consideration are required to transform the world’s hardest material into a beautiful and valuable polished gem.
A cutter must carefully consider the size, shape, cleavage planes and even inclusions when preparing to fashion a rough diamond. The ultimate goal is to end up with the best cut and the most carat weight possible at the lowest production cost. This results in some difficult decisions. Here are the 4 basic steps in cutting a diamond:
Planning stage:
Planning is a decisive step in diamond manufacturing because during this stage the size and relative value of the cut stones that the rough will produce are determined. We have an expert team of all the manufacturing processes – Planners, operations manager, floor manager to look after all these processes. Planner decides where to mark the rough diamond for fashioning it into the best-polished diamond. It is a process of a lot of considerations like the size, clarity and crystal direction when deciding where to mark the diamond rough.
Cleaving or Sawing
Cleaving and Sawing are the two different processes that come after the rough diamond is planned and marked. Each and every diamond has a different plan on the basis of which it can either be cleaved or sawn. There are different teams for Cleaving & Sawing. A rough diamond needs to be broken into parts. That can be done through either of the methods.
Bruiting
This is the step where once the diamond is used to shape the other. The two diamonds grind against each other to shape each other in round shape, a girdling process. It creates a basic outline for a diamond to prepare it for faceting.
Polishing
Giving diamonds a finishing is also carried out meticulously. One of the crucial stages is blocking. It’s crucial because it lays the foundation for the potential of the diamond’s performance in the market. The first 17 or 18 facets are made, creating a single cut. For some very small diamonds, the process stops here. Larger diamonds go on to the brilliant being stage. In this process, a specialist called a brilliant, polishes the final facets. It is this stage that will determine how much brilliance and fire a diamond displays. Minor inconsistencies in symmetry and proportions can make the difference between a gorgeous diamond and a dull, lifeless stone. Here, these are taken care of by the team of experts. Bringing out the best polished from the rough diamonds.
